Why this is the constraint
For a lot of people, “can I install it?” settles the question before price does.
A tool you cannot run is not cheap, it is unavailable. Three situations knock most of this category out before anyone looks at a price:

The device is managed by someone else.
School-issued Chromebooks and corporate laptops routinely block installs outright. That removes Poised, which is a macOS or Windows desktop app, and Speeko, which is distributed through the App Store. It leaves the four browser tools: SpeakUp Coach, Yoodli, VirtualSpeech, and Orai’s web version.

Speeko is the strongest free tier in this category, and its own site describes it as being “For Mac, iPhone, and iPad.” If none of those are within reach, its free tier is not available to you at any price. That is worth knowing before a recommendation sends you to the App Store.

Because a lot of people cannot install software on the device they actually have. School-issued Chromebooks and managed work laptops block installs, shared family computers often have no admin password, and an App Store download assumes Apple hardware and an Apple account. A browser tool sidesteps all three.
Does a browser-based speaking app still work offline?
No. SpeakUp Coach records locally in the browser, but the AI analysis runs on a server, so the analysis step needs a connection. That is true of every tool on this page — the feedback is generated remotely whether the app was installed or not.
